The Shelsley: Electric Campervan Conversion
Customer-supplied van conversion service
IMI TechSafe™ Level 3 • NCC Academy Trained • AWS Approved Workshop
The Shelsley is our classic side-kitchen conversion, fitted to your own Cargo or Passenger van. You supply the van, and we transform it into a professionally fitted, luxury electric campervan.
This conversion is based on a base vehicle with both the factory-fitted Heat Pump and 3.6 kW V2L system. These systems allow us to integrate the vehicle’s electric heating, cooling and 240 V power capabilities into the campervan specification.
Family-friendly feature: Rear-seat ISOFIX child-seat mounting points are included as standard on the Rock ’n’ Roll Bed, subject to the final approved seating configuration.
Based on the supplied payload assumptions, the vehicle has a stated GVW of 2,785 kg, with the Shelsley build adding approximately 295 kg to the standard kerb weight. The 71.2 kWh battery assumption adds a further 45 kg. Payload figures are indicative and must be checked against the individual vehicle.

The Shelsley gives you a side kitchen and family-friendly rear seating. If you prefer twin beds or a full-width bed with a rear galley, compare it with our Witley campervan conversion.

Stargaze Panoramic Pop-Top Roof
Our rear-opening Stargaze Roof hinges at the front, raising the rear of the roof. This design allows wind pressure to help keep the roof securely closed while driving, providing added peace of mind on motorways and long journeys.
It also maximises standing headroom where you need it most, creating generous space over the main living area rather than over the cab. That makes cooking, relaxing and moving around the campervan more comfortable.
- Marine-grade canvas: Waterproof, durable and weather-tested.
- Panoramic opening: Fully unzip the front for a stargazing experience.
- Superior standing room: Full height over the kitchen area, right where you need it.
- Four-season ready: Engineered to withstand the elements while providing maximum ventilation.
Safety note: The front-hinged design raises the rear of the roof and helps keep it securely closed while driving.

Factory Heat Pump and V2L Required
The Shelsley conversion is designed for vans with both the factory-fitted Heat Pump and 3.6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) system. This specification can be completed on both Cargo and Passenger models. These factory systems must be present on the customer-supplied van before the build begins.
- 3.6 kW V2L system: Powers 240 V appliances directly from the vehicle battery, with no separate inverter required.
- Factory Heat Pump: Provides air conditioning and cabin heating from the base vehicle, creating a fully electric, gas-free climate solution for year-round touring.
- Intelligent priority system: Automatically pauses the EV charger while you cook, helping prevent a campsite breaker trip. Power resumes when cooking is finished.
- Factory Camp Mode: OEM V2L 240 V mains control integration.
Important: When choosing your base vehicle, make sure it has both the factory-fitted Heat Pump and V2L. During your consultation, we’ll confirm the specification of your Cargo or Passenger vehicle and plan the conversion around its factory equipment.
If your vehicle does not have these factory options: We recommend a compact 240 V electric blow heater running from campsite hookup, providing reliable warmth without gas. For a self-contained off-grid 240 V setup, we can also discuss our Smart Lithium / UPS Inverter retrofit fitting service, subject to your vehicle and touring requirements.

Conversion Questions
Does the Shelsley include ISOFIX?

Does the Shelsley fit both Cargo and Passenger vans?
Yes. The Shelsley is a customer-supplied campervan conversion that can be completed on both Cargo and Passenger versions, provided the van has the factory-fitted Heat Pump and V2L systems required for this specification.
What equipment is needed before conversion?
Your vehicle must have both the factory-fitted Heat Pump and 3.6 kW V2L system. We confirm the vehicle specification during consultation before planning the build. Is the vehicle included in the price?
No. The Shelsley is a conversion and fitting service for your customer-supplied van. You provide the Cargo or Passenger van, and the campervan conversion and installation work is carried out for you.

Real-World Payload: How Much Can You Carry?
Based on the supplied assumptions of a vehicle GVW of 2,785 kg, with the Shelsley build adding approximately 295 kg to the standard kerb weight. Each person is calculated at 75 kg. A fixed 20 kg pots and pans allowance is included regardless of occupancy. The 71.2 kWh battery assumption adds a further 45 kg.
ⓘ Always verify against your vehicle’s VIN plate GVW and kerb weight before loading. Figures are indicative.
| Occupancy | People | + Pots and pans allowance | Total load | Remaining (51.5 kWh) | Remaining (71.2 kWh) | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Driver only | 75 kg | 20 kg | 95 kg | 400 kg | 355 kg | Excellent |
| 2 up | 150 kg | 20 kg | 170 kg | 325 kg | 280 kg | Very Good |
| 3 up | 225 kg | 20 kg | 245 kg | 250 kg | 205 kg | Good |
| 4 up (full) | 300 kg | 20 kg | 320 kg | 175 kg | 130 kg | Within GVW |
What this means: This four-seat example uses 75 kg per person plus a fixed 20 kg pots and pans allowance. At four occupants, it leaves 175 kg of payload on the 51.5 kWh version and 130 kg on the 71.2 kWh version. Any additional luggage, food, water or equipment uses that remaining allowance. Do not exceed the plated GVW, and always check the Stage 2 VIN plate before loading.
